hepatitis c antibody

This answer was rated:

my sister was just told that she has hepatitis c antibody please explain it to me and how bad is it? tammy

This means that she has been exposed to the Hepatitis C virus.

Yes, this is quite serious. There is a great deal of information at

the CDC site, including this:

What are the chances of persons with HCV infection developing
long term infection, chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, liver cancer,
or dying as a result of hepatitis C?
Of every 100 persons infected with HCV about:

55-85 of persons might develop long-term infection
70 persons might develop chronic liver disease
5-20 persons might develop cirrhosis over a period of 20 to 30
1-5 of persons might die from the consequences of long term
infection (liver cancer or cirrhosis)
Hepatitis C is a leading indication for liver transplants.

i think she has liver damage already?
The best approach is for her to have regular check-ups with her
doctor. There are no herbs or vitamins that will assist with any
treatment she is receiving, nor substitute for correct medical
attention. In fact, she should not take ANY biologically active
compounds of whatever source without first checking with her
doctor. The liver is the organ that processes the majority of
these and so the possibility of damaging the liver further exists.

The most important dietary/lifestyle modification that she could
make to help would be to avoid alcohol.

Greetings Tammy:

Did I read your question correctly?

Thank you for responding Tammy -

There is an Hepatitis C antibody test that determines if one has been exposed to Hepatitis C Virus.

Hepatitis C: An Information Resource - Liver Health Information - The American Liver Foundation

Elisa assay to detect Hepatitis C antibody.

Antibodies are a type of protein.MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Antibody

If your sister has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C, please know that this condition can deteriorate one's liver rapidly if one doesn't take care of one's self, properly. However, the liver is the only organ in our bodies that regenerates/regrows.

There are many things that your sister can do for this condition - and there are NATURAL REMEDIES for same.

Your sister needs to learn about toxins, foods that kill/foods that heal, water cure, fats that heal and more:

Hepatitis C Prevention, Cure, Curing Protocol, Remedies, Herbs, Alternative Medicine

Natural Herbs: Artichoke/Licorice/Turmeric/Shizandra/Fringe Tree/Isistis and other anti-viral and liver strengthening herbs.

Super Aloe Vera Juice 10,000 MPS...A minimum of two ounces a day, the more the better, as an antiviral, and an immune potentiator, and a detoxifier.

Specific diet recommendations such as ginger, and lemon, distilled water, and specific vegetables and fruits that help regenerate tissue in the liver and other organs.

Hepatitis C

While the items listed above were researched over the internet in which to provide you with quick information, please know that I have many herbal books that offer remedies for this condition which I can provide you.

I know about this condition as someone close to me suffers from same.

The Western Medicine prescribed is Interferon. You can obtain more info at the following site: Google Search: interferon To my knowledge, the person that I know suffering from this condition did not have any side effects.

I hope this has helped you.

Please let me know if you wish for further information.

Bright Blessings.

It might not be as bleak as my earlier information might have
made it seem!

As I said, the presence of the antibodies indicates that she has
been exposed to the virus in the past, and the consequences of
ongoing chronic infection can be serious as the CDC data shows.

An alternative that I overlooked was that the antibody test does
not reveal is if the virus is still present, or if indeed her immune
system eradicated it at the time of that exposure. This happens
for about 1 person in 5, so the chances are, I'm afraid, that the
virus is still present. I'm sorry for omitting this.

A different test is required to determine if the virus is actually
still present. If this has not been performed, it should be as it is
important to determine if she has a chronic infection.

In any case, my advice that she should liase closely with her
doctor applies, whether it be to arrange the additional tests or to
receive professional advice concerning the proper therapy for
chronic infection, if it is proven.

Reply to TheMysticWave's Post: thanks for info i do appreciate it.

Greetings Tammy, you are very welcome - My very best wishes to you and your sister, of course.

Please let me know if you wish for further information.

Thanks for accepting my answer.

One further thought has occurred to me. False positives for HCV
antibodies do happen. This is another reason why it is
important for her to have the additional test for the presence of
the actual virus. If that is negative, the original test may have
been in error, or she may be one of the lucky ones whose
immune system can clear the virus after exposure.

For new developments, I suggest you keep an eye on this web
