These food items all come from the Americas. and were
unknown to the Europeans before the Spanish
conquest of Mexico. Vanilla, chocolate and the tomato
are also "new world foods".

Dear theresa 1101,

First guess: They were all invented by the Aztecs. Tequila was a drink they came up with, and they managed through plant manipulation to create the pumpkin and the chipolte pepper (which is usually used in many hot sauces.)

Second guess: They all have the Mexican "Day of the Dead" (Dia de los Muertos) in common. (By the way, the Aztecs had been celebrating this tradition for hundreds of years.) Liquors like tequila are left on the graves along with candied pumpkins, and a hot sauce (pipian sauce) is used on chicken for a meal.

Third guess: All three begin from seeds.

Pumpkins comes from pumpkin seeds. Tequila is made from the Agave plant, which begins with a seed. Hot sauce is usually made with chili peppers, which start from a seed.

I hope that helps.

In regards XXXXX XXXXX part where it was pointed out to me that the Aztecs did not originate the "Day of the Dead" custom----I had searched through several websites before I had posted my answer, and I have searched through several since on the origins of this custom, and every website I consult keeps stating that the Aztecs DID indeed begin the Day of the Dead custom. For more information, please check out just three of the many websites I checked. If you still dispute this information, then PLEASE, provide the information of who did start the Day of the Dead.

Day of the Dead sites:

As for your contention that the Aztecs didn't invent tequila--I've come across many websites that attribute it to them, though, I'm only including the following website because it also gives credit to other indigenous tribes. The reality is that there were several different recipes for tequila just like there are several different recipes for apple pie.
