In what language is the word "seiner", and what does it mean? I think it is a fishing net. My husband's family's last name is Seiner, and I cannot find a country or origin. I recently read a National Geographic article about fishing and they were talking about nets that were called "pocket seiner".

Hello. I think what you are referring to as far as the fishing would be the Seine nets that are used to catch fish. The actual name is "seine net" but I guess they could be called "seiners" when talking about what they do. As for you surname, you are right, it does not show up in a lot of the data bases but I was able to find one that lists it. I did not delve deeply into it so I don't know if it's one that charges for information or not. If they do, it would be up to you to decide how badly you want to know. There is also the option of contacting the Mormons. They have what is generally agreed to be one of the largest repositories of geneological information gathered in one place and the last that I knew, they do it free of charge. Here is a link to that site. Click here: FamilySearch.org - Family History and Genealogy Records I hope this is helpful information for you but if you need something further, just let us know.
