Dear Elizabeth,

I know you have already received an answer but a quick web search showed that you have looked to genealogy message boards for information on this question before. So, I wanted to provide you with a more detailed explanation that may provide you with the real information you are seeking - as opposed to a direct answer to the specific question that you asked.

This answer may seem fairly convoluted but read through it please let me know if you need any clarification.

A search of the Los Angeles Times obituary archive shows thta no obituary was run for your father during the entire year of 1987.

However, I did search a few other databases to see what information I could uncover about him and his family - past and present.

Your father, Walter Barbour, was listed in the 1930 Census living in Los Angeles with his parents - James H Barbour (born about 1896 in Tennessee) and Elizabeth (born about 1903 in California). Also listed with the family are two of your father's siblings - a brother, William (born about 1924) and a sister, Barbara (born about 1929).

A search of California Birth and Death records reveals that James died in 1972, Elizabeth (whose maiden name is Olmstead) died in 1996. William died in 1990. I was unable to locate Barbara as it is likely she married and more research would be needed to determine her married name.

A search of those same databases revealed that James and Elizabeth had another child after 1930 - a daughter, Lavell Eloise Barbour, born in 1938. She passed away in August of 2003.

However, HER husband, Roger is still alive. Since your father was his brother-in-law, Roger might be able to provide you with the information you are seeking. Roger Towne can be reached at 626-355-0965 or by mail at 557 Acacia Street, Sierra Madre, California 91024.

Good luck to you!
