Hello,

My daughter works for a law office in Nutley on Centre Street.

She made a phone call to the Nutley Historial Society and was told that Stager Street was named after a Nutley, NJ family that had two members that fought in the Civil War.

Here is the website:

http://www.nutleysons.com/nsciv.html

Additionally, Henry Stager who was a member of this family donated the land that the Church Street School is located on in 1875.

Yes, I know it was named after the Stager family in Nutley, but I need to know exactly which two memebers it was. There were 5 Stagers in the Civil War, 2 are the same:
1. William H. Speer
2. Abraham H. Stager
3. William H. Stager
4. Garrett Stager
5. George H. Stager
Can you find out for me? Tbank you! Linda

Thank you so much! I'm doing my girlfriend's (from High School) genealogy. We were both born and raised in Nutley, NJ (she still lives there, but doesn't know how to find out about her family history. She is a Stager. I've found out so much for her (genealogy is what I do) and just wanted to know if the street was named after any one particular Stager. Her great-great-grandfather was Garrett Stager and he was in the civil war. She knew none of this. My mother used to belong to the Nutley Historical Society back in the '60's. Her name was Barbara Sost. Well, here I am rambling on. Thank you so very much for your time. Linda

Yes it is a VERY small world. You know, when I was living in Jersey, (and young) I could have cared less about family history (even though my mother and grandmother were very much into it) or the history of New Jersy. Now that I'm older (and have a computer, unlike my mother and grandmother) I've really gotten hooked on genealogy. I've been doing it for the past 6 years and now that I'm doing my girlfriends family, I'm learning so much about N.J. Her family is sooo fasinating and there is sooo much written about them. She is so excited and happy at what I've been finding. I can't wait to go back there and visit. I do have some family there. A cousin still lives in Nutley and more live down the shore. It's so nice to have met you! I'm so glad I asked a question. Look what it turned into! I can't wait to see what your daughter finds out next week. I don't know if it was on your news in CA but we had a really bad wind storm on Friday that knocked out power for about 1 million people. We were one of them. It finally came back on today around 4PM. I was totally frozen. I had 3 layers of clothes on and my gloves. It got down to about 25 degrees last night! Linda
