Hello Lyn,

I am researching your question, it takes a little time, I have located a number of records including date and detail of his trial.

Brendan
Customer: replied 1 year ago.

I have have the details of his trial and his record sheets, its is his birth place and parents which is what I am interested in. He was tried in Dublin on 9/4/1847 and left on the Blenheim II from Dublin

Expert:  Brendan Joseph replied 1 year ago.

Hello Lyn,

I have checked all the records in Australia, marriage and death for James, no parents listed.

There is one baptism record 1820 in Queens for a James Whyte

http://laois.rootsireland.ie/

You register for free, records cost 5 euro, the other option is to have his file researched in the National Archives in Dublin.

References: 1847 TR7, Page 54

The record may record family members, there also may have been a petition for clemency,

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

how do I go about having him researched through the National Archives in Dublin.

Does the baptism give you any information as to where it was done or is this what I have to go to the website for.

I already had all the information on the trial. Is it possible the spelling of whyte to white could have occured.

Expert:  Brendan Joseph replied 1 year ago.

Hello Lyn,

It looks like there are no records in Australia that will give details of his parents names.

There are two records that may give details of his parents:

his transportation file in the National Archives, researchers here:

http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-researchers-nationwide/

The other record is his prison record, before deportation prisoners were held in Kilmainham Jail in Dublin, there are prisioner records online, the year he was transported was 1848

http://www.findmypast.ie/

Use the filters to get the prison records for Kilmainham Jail 1848

Hi Lyn,

What religion was James?

I believe he was born in Dublin, he called his first son William Charles, good chance his father was William

He was held in the Bridewell then transfered to Kilmainham before transportation.

Record states residence City of Dublin

I found some information on a web site called Founders and Survivors and this had his conviction details on it and it listed his religion as Church of England and it also listed his place of birth as Queens County it said he had no relations in the family relationships field and listed him as single.

If the person you have listed above is the same one that is all very interesting and he was a naughty one !!!!. When he came to Tasmania after being set free he was given a parcel of land to farm which has been in my family ever since.

Expert:  Brendan Joseph replied 1 year ago.

Hi Lyn,

Every record that I look at states Dublin, there is no reference to Queens County.

His religion should have read Church of Ireland

Here is his baptism record:

Thats all new information for me.

The information that lead me to queens county is that i have a very old piece of paper hand written by someone that said

XXXXX XXXXX born Queens Court Ireland came out in ship Blenheim 1849. could Queens court be somewhere in Dublin

Expert:  Brendan Joseph replied 1 year ago.

Hi Lyn,

There were lots of streets in Dublin that started with Queen and King and Prince.

I live in Dublin, I am looking at primary Irish records, our beloved James may not have been able to read or write. They may not have been able to understand his thick Dublin accent.

There is no reference in any Irish records to Queens

His TR file should give the answers.

Example of another XXXXX XXXXX, if the residence was different than the trial place it was always stated. Your James was born in Dublin City.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.

What is his TR record.

Expert:  Brendan Joseph replied 1 year ago.

Hi Lyn,

Chancery Lane in Dublin is very close to Smithfield cattle market. His offence in 1847 was stealing cattle in Smithfield, the offence was in Dublin, not down the country.

Your James was born in Dublin

TR is his transportation file in the National Archives

Thanks you have given me a lot to go on.

Do you have any information on his parent and brothers and sisters. His parents details are what i was after.

The other information has been excellent and surprising.

Expert:  Brendan Joseph replied 1 year ago.
Hi Lynn,

His father was William, mother Elizabeth, his grandfather was William.

The family was still living in Chancery Lane 1860's 1870's

I will see what records turn up.

Brendan

Hello Lyn,

The records are very hit and miss, looks like James had a brother Patrick, he was living in the same address when he married, he married in a RC church.

Looks like Richard & William were brothers
