On the 1860 fed census I found my great grandfather James Dimond/Diamond and my great grand mother Margaret. The town of Sullivan, Madison County, NY . Also a Gregory Dimond/Diamond . I don`t know who gregory is father, uncle , cousin. older brother. Gregory disappears in history . Have found his civil war records but no pension history. Also Gregory only appears again when a couple a weeks age I found him living by my grandparents again on a City Directory of 1872, 1874. Syracuse,NY.Tried for 5 years to find him. I need help, Pat Diamond
Already Tried: immigrant records never find a Gregory, have civil war records 1870 records think his name is XXXXXXX XXXXX Demon but the names of children and wife are correct. I find his wife Nellie living w my great grandparents in 1884 in City Directory.
Hi Pat!
Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question.
So you want to know who Gregory is. Which piece of information is missing about his life that you are wanting us to find exactly that you haven't found yet?
How he is related to by ggrandfather. I know his was born 1817-1820 Ireland. I thought I`d find him in my grandfathers civil war pension history as a family member. But no pension because Margaret married again.Would like to know where in Ireland they came from my Mother believes James was from Derry. Also there is a Patrick Diamond who is always close to them and I found his name on baptism records and Gregory . ,my grand parents in Chittenango, NY I understand that many Irish came over during Famine.
Unless some of the documents state his relationship specifically we are only going to be left with speculation.
As far as origins in Ireland, I can tell you that there are no baptismal records listing him or a Patrick Diamond. There are about 29 records for a Diamond in Ireland born about that time period, with 5 in Derry. There is however one James Diamond born around that time period in Derry.
Would you like me to open up that record for James to see more of the details for you?

His father in law wa XXXXX XXXXX born 1800 in northern ireland he came over 1851. ,

Passenger lists are hit and miss and too few during that time period but I will look for you.
Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX looking up Richardson also my great great grandmother Margaret`s mother obit. said she was born county mayo had been here 76yrs. with her husband Anthony Richardson, who died maybe 1868-1869 can`t find him either but census 1930 say he`s from northern Ireland and Catherine irish free state. I`m not giving up on Gregory, Patrick Diamond, i`m going to pull his civil war pension records that will take time. But have a good feeling about him.and Margaret was god parent to his daughter I believe. I`m in Syracuse,NY and went to Chittenango NY and found records of St. Mary`s church. I guess that` s to much info but frustrating to have so much and yet no answers Thank you , Pat I`ll check back tomorrow. God Bless
Pat,
I found a possible passenger list for James arriving from England on the Albert Gallatin on the 16 Dec 1854. (top line of the 2nd page).
Thank you, XXXXX XXXXX once before and think that could be James , I know that some times they go from Ireland to London to leave or maybe the ship stops there on the way. I wonder if I should get in touch with the Belfast, National records. I not giving up on Gregory , thank you . Yesterday , my nephew died and my thoughts were a little off. And I rambled a bit but he was so happy to read his ggrandfathers civil war history and I would like to let the rest of the family know as much as I can remember my mother telling me.
My condolences to the family.
What else can I do for you?
Has my service been acceptable to you?
Yes, I guess I will try reading some of the microfilm at the library and maybe find obit on Gregory or my ggrandfather James. Is there anyway once they get of the boat what direction they headed. I made an agreement and will stick with it. thank you Pat
It depends on the passenger list. Some of them have destinations (Ellis Island lists usually).
I will mark this question as answered then and if you will be so kind as to rank the service acceptable I would appreciate it very much.
All the best,
Jim

You , said you found baptism record for a James Diamond in Derry . How would I research that . Thank You,
It is found at a fee-based (pay per view) site www.rootsireland.ie . Search for the Baptimal Records in Derry for James Diamond around 1820 +/- 5 to 10 years. It could be a clue to the relatives/parents of your James and other Diamond family members.
