Also we do only one generation at a time. We can look for Anna's grandparents (i.e. John Lachlan's parents) if you know for sure that John Lachlan McIntosh was Anna's father, but not her great-grandparents.

it is not anna , it is anne mcintosh and her father was john laclan mcintosh and her mothers maiden name was anne mckenzie , her grandfather was john mcintosh ,I would to know which branch of the family he came from.
I don't know what "which branch of the family he came from" would entail. We can research one person per question. That means looking for one person's parents, not an entire family history which could take weeks to research and cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.

However, the only marriage I found in a quick search for Anne McKenzie was to John Mohr McIntosh.

I haven't given an answer yet to be wrong or right. I simply quoted a record. I am going to opt out since I wouldn't want to get a negative rating for quoting official records when they may not agree with what you have been told about your family history. I also cannot research without some valid information (like dates) to begin with. Good luck with your research with some other genealogist.
