Customer Question

I am trying to find anything about Samuel Davidson, born about 1808 in County Cavan, Ireland. His wife was Sarah McKelvey, born Ireland (?) 12 Feb 1809. They sailed from Dundee bound for Australia on board the "Anne Milne" and arrived in Australia early January, 1842. Children born Ireland were Robert, 18/4/1836 and Jane, born 1838. I am unable to find anything relating to their time in Ireland. Can you help?-

Hi, Welcome and thanks for your question.

What are some of the things about their life in Ireland that you would like to discover?

Customer replied 290 days and 14 hours ago.

Where they lived, occupation, where the children were born.

How long the family lived in Ireland. Did they come to Ireland from Scotland?

Why they decided to make the long journey to Australia.

Samuel's parents names and where he was born. Sarah's parents names and where she was born.

Did Samuel have any other siblings? Maybe their names.

Pretty much as much as you can tell me would be great.

I found something!

I found a birth/baptism record for a Jane "Davison" in 1837 in County Donegal whose father is listed as a Samuel. (variations in surname spellings are common during that time period).

I can open the record for you and view the details (parents names listed, witnesses listed, location of where the family lived, date of the baptism, name of the parish where it was performed). If you would like me to do that it would end the search. What would you like me to do?

I already searched for the following records but didn't find anything: Birth of Samuel, birth of Robert (none available with a father named Samuel), marriage record for Samuel, 1841 census records (majority of these were destroyed).

I also looked for additional children for a Samuel Davidson and found four possible baptism matches in County Down from 1832 - 1842. Two from 1833 - 1841. One in 1836 (but none of these are named Robert).

Which record would you like to see more details on?

All the best,

Jim

Jim,

I will leave it at that - thankyou for trying - I thought that you may have had access to information that I hadn't already found.

I am sorry if I didn't find something different then you have. There are not a lot of choices when it comes to Ireland. You had mentioned "roots.com" as where you had previously searched which is associated with Ancestry. I searched RootsIreland.ie which I thought would be different than where you had searched.

If these are not the records you are looking for then they are currently unavailable online. The best way to find them is done by hiring a professional to go to the archives and repositories of Ireland or in Salt Lake City, Utah where the records might exist either in original form or microfilm. You can find a reputable genealogist at http://www.apgen.org/ , http://expertgenealogy.com/ , or at http://www.progenealogists.com/ that can help you with this additional search if needed. Be aware though that Progenealogists.com will charge you a minimum of $1900 upfront with no assurance of finding you the information you seek.

Is there anything else that I can help you with?

How was my service otherwise? Was it Okay, Good, or Excellent? If I send you a rating would you mark it as such?
