I am trying to retrieve info from it so I can replace it I need what they call the drive key
I just wanted to make sure that I fully understood your question. This isn't an easy process and falls under the category of hacking the NAND of the XBOX to get the original key from the original drive that was installed in your XBOX, then dumping the key to your new drive before installation. There are two methods of doing this. Depending on what kernal version your xbox is running. You can find this information in the system info. If you have version 7371 or then this is the tutorial for how to do it. It is called the JTAG hack.7371 and earlier tutorial for getting DVD drive KeyIf you are running a kernal version higher than 7371 then you need this tutorial.RGH tutorialRemember if you decide to proceed with this that you must have the exact same make and model DVD drive that you had in your Xbox originally with a key to match your motherboard or you will be banned from XBOX Live. If you are using any other make and model of DVD drive with the key from your motherboard, Microsoft will flag your Live account as hacked and ban you permanently from Live. Here are the possibilities of types of DVD drives that are in XBOX consoles. You should have one of the following now, and you should replace it with the exact same model.Xenon — Hitachi, Toshiba, or Philips model driveZephyr — Hitachi or Toshiba model driveFalcon — Benq or Liton model driveIf you have any other drive in your console, or the above tutorials won't work for you then your dashboard has been updated to a version of firmware that is going to make replacing your drive at home impossible. You can either send it in for a drive replacement or replace the console. With the cost of labor and the lowered cost of a new console you'd be better off just replacing the console. Thanks for your patience while we work through your issue. Hope this helps.
