Hi,

My name is XXXXX XXXXX X'd be happy to answer your questions today. Please note that there may be a slight delay in response time, as I may be helping with other questions or I may be away from the computer. I will answer any follow-up questions as soon as I can.

The primary thing that you can do to stop this scam is to cut off contact with the person, refuse to send him any money, and walk away. If you send him money, he's not actually going to travel to Australia, so there is no hope of catching him that way. There's also no way to arrange to catch him at the pick-up point. It would be dangerous to try to apprehend him on your own (and expensive, since he's probably somewhere in Africa). No, the one thing you can do is to refuse to support him or give him any money.

You also can, and should, report him to Scam Watch. It's their job to investigate these things and decide what action to take.

You can also report the account as a scammer to the site where you met him, and any email providers he's using, such as Gmail or Yahoo. And, if there's any doubt in your mind that he's scamming you (although it sounds like you're sure), read this article. It's very good.

I apologize for the delay. I typically am not online all day on the weekends.

Unfortunately, because this is an issue that has to do with Australian landlord/tenant and roommate law, and it's not related to the original question, I have to ask you to open a new question in the Australian law category. Someone should be with you shortly.

Thankyou Lucy I give you 110% credit. Kath
