I have received emails and application form from Global Rewards saying I had won money. The man, XXXXX XXXXX, has called me internationally three times. How do I check this out.
Already Tried: I have NOT shared my info re passport number and drivers license as requested. The clain form does not ask for bank info and I would never share tht. Just checking.
Hi,My name is XXXXX XXXXX X'd be happy to answer your questions today. We have recently implemented a new payment and feedback system. Please be aware that you are rating my courtesy and service as a professional, and not whether the answer supports your legal position. If you have any questions at all, or there is anything I can clarify for you, please bypass the rating system and click “Continue the Conversation” or "Reply". Choosing either of the lowest two options reflects poorly on me (and not the law), so please reply to me if there is anything I can do to help before choosing those options. I appreciate your patience while we work out the kinks.
Unfortunately, this is a scam. You cannot win a contest that you did not enter, and there are no legitimate international lotteries or sweepstakes of this sort. Lotteries are heavily regulated in the United States. If you did win a lottery, you would never have to provide a passport number. The way a lottery works is, first, you have to buy a ticket. It's impossible to win without buying a ticket. Then, you have to actually watch the drawing and notify the company that you won. A lottery isn't going to pay anyone if they don't have to, so if someone wins without noticing, no one is going to contact him. Once they convince you that you've won, they either start asking for your personal information - which they use to scam other people - or they tell you that you need to pay a small, upfront fee to "collect" your winnings. Then they steal your money.
The Federal Trade Commission has specifically warned people not to fall for this scam.http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/youarehere/pages/pdf/FTC-Fraud-Scams-The-Winner-Is.pdf
Do not send them any money or give them any personal information. If they call again, tell them that you are reporting them to the police. They should stop calling.
Please remember to rate my response before signing out, as this is the only way that I get credit for the time I spend helping you. I hope that you are satisfied - if not, please click "reply" so that we may continue the conversation.
