TROUBLE GETTING MY RANGER OUT OF PARK ON OCCASION, 2003, I

Customer Question

I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING MY RANGER OUT OF PARK ON OCCASION
JA: What year is your Ranger?
Customer: 2003
JA: Are you fixing your Ranger yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I HAVE NOT TAKEN IT IN YET. IT HAS 210,000 MILES ON IT AND I DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IT WOULD COST.
JA: I'm not sure of the exact price, but there's only a $5 deposit. The rest of the price information will be on the page I send you to.
Customer: WHAT DO YOU NEED ME TO DO?
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: IS THIS ONLY GOING TO COST ME $5.00?

Does the vehicle have issues going into park as well?

The first thing you want to do is make sure your brake lights are working correctly. If they aren't this will prevent the vehicle from coming out of park. If the brake lamps are working correctly then you have a faulty brake shift interlock in the steering column. The part is around $40 and to have it replaced might cost around $100
