2006 ford escape power steering went out with yellow wrench

Customer Question

2006 ford escape power steering went out with yellow wrench lit up on dashboard and service power steering message
JA: Have all the fuses been checked?
Customer: yes
JA: Are you fixing your Escape yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I suspect either PSCM or lower column is worn. Looking for help
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Recently had recall on another module related to cooling batteries in rear for hybrid. The car got weak and said something like safely stop car. That same thing has happened a couple of times right as the power steering went out. Perhaps related?

Hi, my name is ***** ***** you pulled codes from the computer yet?

Customer: replied 1 month ago.
I didn't get any codes with my device. I think Ford may have a different instrument.
Customer: replied 1 month ago.
My first time using just answer. I paid $28. Is that right?
Expert:  Tim Mohr replied 1 month ago.

you need a scanner to communicate with the power steering control module, a code reader will not do this, the 2 codes you are looking for are a P2777 or a P2778, the P2777 is almost lways caused by a bad steering control module, the P2778 is almost always caused by a bad angle sensor in the steering column,Tim

Where can I get the scanner? Do parts stores do this?
Expert:  Tim Mohr replied 1 month ago.

most parts houses only scan for engine codes, any shop with a good scanner can do this, but they usually charge 40 dollars to read all the codes,Tim
