I'm having a problem with my anti-theft system on my

Customer Question

Hi, I'm having a problem with my anti-theft system on my Explorer. The battery went dead and now my car won't respond when I turn the key. How do you reprogram the system?
JA: Do you have another key you can try this with?
Customer: I did try the other key, still nothing
JA: What year is your Explorer?
Customer: 2004
JA: Are you fixing your Explorer yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: Yes, I've tried locking and unlocking the driver side door 5 times, still nothing...did it with both keys.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: I have the battery charger on the battery

No problem

Try this.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 minutes.

  2. Now hook it back up

  3. Now unlock and lock the door with the remote and then with the key

  4. Now try to start it with one key and then the other.

  5. If it fails then it has some kind of aftermarket system or the keys have lost there program for some unknown reason.

  6. If this is the case then a dealer IDS scan tool is needed for reprogramming.

Make sure there is no out of place little red light any where below the steering wheel or a module behind the panel below the steering wheel.
