Have Ford Questions? Ask a Mechanic for Answers ASAP
good evening my name is ***** ***** I will assist
are you sure it was valve train related???
could be a rod bearing???
ok, then the next thing you ned to check is the valve guides. if they are worn, the valve will move side to side and give a noise like a valve tap.
this you will not be able to tell by visual inspection. you need to remove the rockers and push rods and then manually try and move the valves around
I put a large socket over top of the valve spring and put an extension on it and try to move it around
in 5 minutes, you removed all rockers and did this test????
did you check all the valves???
timing chain covers???? you posted 5.0 engine. is this a 4.6???
what engine do you have?????
Have you had somebody else listen to the engine?
As Roy has pointed out, a worn valve guide may give you this noise, but it is sounding more like a rod bearing.
A leak down test can only be performed at TDC end of compression stroke, unless the rockers are removed.
Was there any abnormality noted with the parts you have replaced?
Did lifter preload seem correct for each valve when you fitted the rocker arms?
Do you need any further help?
I hope my advice has been of assistance to you.
