I have an 06 crown Vic with a wrench light on. It came on

Customer Question

I have an 06 crown Vic with a wrench light on. It came on just after the instrument cluster faulted (going on and off intermittently). I got w rebuilt cluster and the problem still exists. Lights on, cooling fans on. Any suggestions?
JA: Just to clarify, what are the exact lights you're talking about?
Customer: Wrench light
JA: What is the model of your '06 Ford?
Customer: P71
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I replaced the cluster earlier with a rebuilt one and cleared the pcm. Ford dealer believed it was a wiring issue because he pulled about 5 codes related to the cluster
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Is it safe to drive?

I have a fleet of about 300 Crown Victorias. Let me see if I can help.

So at this point the only code that you are getting from the computer is p0071?

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I'm not getting that code, I'm getting codes ranging from the vehicle speed sensor to the transmission oil temp sensor, 5 in total if I recall correctly. It causes the cooling fan to kick on, I'm assuming because the transmission thinks it's overheating

If I have those code numbers I could get an idea of where the vehicle is detecting the fault. We see the wrench light on for hundreds of reasons, so the light alone doesn't tell us much.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
I'm assuming they would have been p1711, 1713, 1714 and a few more related to speed sensors

Those 3 codes are transmission codes. They usually indicate a transmission or valve body failure.
