Customer Question

I have a 2009 ford escape, 4 cylinder. I recently got all the fluids replaced, replaced the spark plugs, etc. While driving home it overheated, and steam was coming from the engine. Looking closer I saw antifreeze gushing out of the driver's side of the engine block, right by the water distribution assembly. It looks like something is missing, but I'm not sure what. There are no loose hoses or anything, just a hole that looks like it needs something plugging it / connected to it.

The last picture is the best. The first two are hard to make out I think because your zoomed in so much. Which hose is leaking? Is it the one you have your hand on in the last picture? Where does this hose come from?

Are you able to back up and take a few pictures of that side of the drivers side engine compartment?

Expert:  AMEDEE replied 7 months ago.

You could just have a heater hose leak. This could be a cooling system bypass hose or a heater core hose.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
It's not a hose leaking, it's that hole circled in red.

That my friend is a freeze plug on the side of the cylinder head.

Customer: replied 7 months ago.
Ok, should be easy enough to replace then right?
Expert:  AMEDEE replied 7 months ago.

Kinda of. The good news is that the freeze plug itself is not expensive. There is a little bit of labor to install. Over all, it should not be too expensive to replace.

Awesome, thanks man.
