My 2013 F150 backup camera will only work after being in

Customer Question

my 2013 F150 backup camera will only work after being in park then going to reverse. If I have been driving and I go from drive to reverse the reverse camera doesn't engage.
JA: Is this an aftermarket camera, or did it come with the vehicle?
Customer: OEM
JA: Are you fixing your F150 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: i am, I havent tried anything yet. I just realized that there must be a short somewhere if when in reverse the camera doesnt come on, but if i go from drive to park then to reverse the camera will work.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: no thats it

Hello my name is***** am an ASE Master Technician and I am glad to help you out with your question.

Do you know why this would be happening?
Expert:  Dan replied 2 months ago.

The shift linkage could be slightly out of adjustment causing this problem. You need a scan tool to diagnose, this will tell you that the computer sees if the camera system is seeing that the truck is in reverse.

I have also seen a lot of problem with the cameras themselves.

is that easy to adjust? I'm guessing its under the center console where the gear shift is.

I will look it up in the service manual what is the VIN number?
