Customer Question

Hello I have a 2004 Ford Expedition with 5 4 v8.
I replaced the battery and alternator 6 months ago. No problems for 6 months.
Now I keep getting a intermittent check charging system error 9n my message center.
Battery gauge doesn't drop and the truck is running fine.
Where do you think I should start to trouble shoot besides checking connections?

Hi Im David. Check the fit of the connector on the alternator. make sure its not loose. if its ok, remove it and make sure the contacts inside arent damaged, pushed back or corroded.

Ok. Sounds good. 8 had it tested at oreilys today and he said it tested fine. Some thing is loose . Like you said that connector mat be the case. It seems maybe after that it might be the alternator wiring harness?
Expert:  david craig replied 3 months ago.

sure. the wiring in the harness is always suspect on a 12 year old vehicle,

hows it going?

Customer: replied 3 months ago.
Had the alternator tested at oreilys and it tested . I need to get a chance a check all the connections. After that I will probably buy a new alternator harness. Thank you
Customer: replied 3 months ago.
It tested fine
Expert:  david craig replied 3 months ago.

instead of geting a new harness, we can always do a continuity test of the harness to make sure theres no built up resistance

just checking in to see how its going
