I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 5.4L, i was driving it on july

Customer Question

I have a 2000 Ford Excursion 5.4L, i was driving it on july 4th and parked it. when I went back to get in it it would not start. I would hear the starter engage, but it would not crank. I changed the starter bu the suggestion of a so-called certified mechanic, and the result was the same
JA: Have you checked the fuel supply? And are all the spark plugs working?
Customer: yes, all of the above
JA: Are you fixing your vehicle yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I am trying to repair it myself, I think it could be a fuse or a relay
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: the solenoid has been changed also.

Hi Im David, after the starter was replaced do you still hear it trying to engage?

Expert:  david craig replied 5 months ago.

if so, is it a loud hard click or a series of clicks?

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
A loud hard click. The vehi le hss 235.000 miles on it.
Expert:  david craig replied 5 months ago.

a loud hard click, so we need to look at the voltage drop at the battery when trying to start.

Expert:  david craig replied 5 months ago.

just make sure the voltage is reading around 12.5 before trying to start. then make sure it doesnt drop below 9.6 when trying to start

Customer: replied 5 months ago.
sir.
Expert:  david craig replied 5 months ago.

if thats the case, im going to need you to manually rotate the crankshaft with a ratchet and socket.. you can remove the serpentine belt to make it easier on you. i want to make sure the fly wheel isnt the cause of whats happening

Ok will do tomorrow
Expert:  david craig replied 5 months ago.

and if it rotates ok. you will need to check the big fat cable to the starter. even if it looks ok, take it off, slice the insulation back about an inch, take a wire brush to it clean her up reconnect it and do the same to the positve cable on the battery. even if it looks ok.
