My ford escape will not start. all lights windows bells etc

My ford escape will not start. all lights windows bells etc work but nothing when i turn the key
JA: Is the car in "Park" or "Neutral?" Do you know if your car has a "wheel lock" feature?
Customer: There is a light with a lock on it flashing.
JA: What year is your Escape?
Customer: 2008
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: it started after a few trys. put in nuteral , break etc. and started.
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: then didnt next time i tried.

With the key on , is the theft light flashing rapid or is it off?

Will it start all the time in neutral of with the shifter closer to R or D?
