I have a 1991 Ford Ranger that keeps loading up and smells heavy with gasoline. Once the vehicle warms up it smooths out.

Hello, does it have a hard time starting when cold then clears up?

Then I would suspect a leaking fuel injector, when it leaks down it fills the cylinder u with excess fuel, causing the running rough until it clears out. A fuel pressure leakdown will verify the leak.
