Customer Question

I purchased a 2005 Ford Explorer Limited at the beginning of 2016 and I am mostly happy with it as it has been a great runner. But more and more frequently now, the factory alarm goes off for no reason. I don't have any faith in car alarms; with all the false alarms no one pays attention to them anyway. Is there a setting I can change or wire I can cut that will stop this and the vehicle will still start? It's disturbing my co-workers and my neighbors.

Hi Unfortunately there is no way to turn the factory alarm off. But you could get it repaired. With a special tester like a Ford IDS you can look into the history and see which sensor on the explorer is setting the alarm off.

You have a sensor in each door latch and on the hood, and in the rear hatch latch. Any of those sensor could falsely trigger the alarm.

Sounds like I will have to call the mechanic. OK, thank you.
