Ford f 150: 1999 Ford F 150, V8 . Going down the road and dies.

Customer Question

1999 Ford F 150, V8 . Going down the road and dies. If I wait 20 or 30 minutes most of the time it starts up again. Some times it won't. Also sometimes it will not start at all for a few days. Today went to start it and would not start , red flashing light said anti theft. Turned it off and tried again it started just fine.

greetings, dies it run bad or just quit like the key is shut off when it does? does it crank when it does not start? did you check for trouble codes?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
yes. It is just like you turned the key off

yes no trouble codes, runs great when it is running, yes it cranks but just won't start

I have seen no start and shut off issues with instrument clusters. It would be best to try and communicate with all the modules when the vehicle will not start . If we cannot do this we can try to shock the cluster(band on the dash) or better get access to the connectors to the cluster and do a wiggle test. I have seen more cluster with circuit board or internal faults than pin fit/connector issues. I have duplicated the no start and then rapped the cluster and the vehicle would start.

if the cluster is the fault it would need to be programmed when replaced. You can send it out to an independent business. I have seen and used some, off e-bay when looking for a used module.

when removing the or moving the cluster remember to disconnect the PRNDL
