Hi. I have seen the mass air flow sensor cause a start and die. And also I have seen a throttle body do that. If you want to rule out the fuel system, you should probably check the fuel pressure at the engine when it dies and see what you have. Also try disconnecting the maf sensor connector and see if the truck will stay running. Can you do these and let me know?

I disconnected the MAF and it doesn't run. How would I check fuel pressure, with a gauge I assume?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

Yes. a gauge will screw onto the fuel rail.

I need to go get one
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

Ok. Also make sure the theft light is not blinking rapidly when the key is on.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
What would that mean?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

A problem with the anti-theft.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Can you reset that?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

No. You need a dealer scan tool. Or a locksmith has the software to.

Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

You can try a different key if you have one.

I'm about that test pressure
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

ok

If I try to start the truck with the fuel line that runs to the fuel rail unhooked, should fuel shoot out of there?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

Yes. Fuel should come out the fuel line at the rail if it is unhooked, when the key is turned ON, the fuel pump runs for 3 seconds.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
It was bone.... Nothing came out. Could this be an indication of a bad pump?
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

Yes. Sounds like a pump. Use a stethoscope or piece of hose or something to listen to the tank and see if you can hear the pump coming on.

Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Did that earlier and didn't hear anything... I guess that's why it will start, rough idle for 1-2 seconds then shut off...
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 10 months ago.

You can check for power and ground to the pump now. Thats about it. If there is power, and ground and you have no pressure you need a pump.
