Hi. Can you explain in a little more detail what happens with your Escape when you try to go in reverse?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I have to rev the engine to make move
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 9 months ago.

Ok. Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.

What was the condition like? dark, did it smell burnt?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
It looks good and smells fine
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 9 months ago.

Does it bang into reverse then go normally? Or only moves as you keep it revved up? And how many miles are on it?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
Only moves if I keep it revved up 98028
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 9 months ago.

Ok. You definitely have some internal slippage going on.

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I went out and tried my car and now the reverse is working
Expert:  EricFromCT replied 9 months ago.

Usually when there is a clutch or other component slipping temperature may play an effect.

At this point there are a few options to you.

Expert:  EricFromCT replied 9 months ago.

You could have the computer checked to see if any diagnostic codes were set when this happened. Second, you could have a transmission flush done if you have not had one done in over 30k.

Expert:  EricFromCT replied 9 months ago.

The last thing would be that diagnostics would have to be performed and a pressure gauge would have to be installed in the transmission and see if the pressure is correct or leaking down when not going into reverse.
