I have a 2005 f150 fx4 5.4L. While driving it just shut down

Customer Question

I have a 2005 f150 fx4 5.4L. While driving it just shut down and i pulled over at first it didnt turn over like battery died. Then got a jump and all it does now is turn over. Like it has no spark. I changed the FPDM and changed oil and disconnected battery over night. It still doesnt fire. Also tried spraying starting fluid in resonator and still nothing.

Hello. My name is ***** ***** I will be helping you today.

Can we check and see if it has spark or not or do we just have to do the testing assuming it has no spark and see if we can find something wrong?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I can test it now
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

Let me know what you find.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Tested spark three different times. Nothing

What would cause battery to die whille driving and would alternator cause truck not to fire?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Change fuel filter, clean throttle body. Still nothing what would cause a no fire.

Sorry I had to run out for a while. Just a moment.

Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

Alright. Check fuse 33 in the interior fuse panel both for being good and having voltage to it with the key on.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Checked all fuses all good. It just turns over. Fuel pumps working. Fpdm working as well. Just no fire. Can cam sensor keep from cranking, or alternator. Im leaning towards ECM
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Went and changed fuse 33 just to be safe and nothing

Does it have voltage?

Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

Something is keeping it from cranking now?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Yrs it has voltage. Thinking of changing the crank sensor.
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

So it doesnt have an injector pulse either?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
How do you check injector pulse
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

Using either a test light or noid light at the injector connector watching for the light to flash while cranking. I assumed you already checked that to determine it was a bad crank sensor. Since it wont crank you need to fix that first though.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Used noid light on injectors no lights.
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

As I said the no crank needs to be corrected first. It will not light a noid light when it wont crank.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What should i do? I lost now
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Truck turns over it just dont fire
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

Oh. You said it wasnt cranking now. Guess I was confused.

Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

Check the crank sensor output with a multimeter. Disconnect the connector and connect your meter between the two terminals of the sensor while cranking the engine and let me know how many volts you got. Set your meter to AC volts.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Idont have a meter just a test light and tested plug and no light. So did i do something wrong or is there no power going to crank sensor
Expert:  Wayne Crawford replied 1 year ago.

I wouldnt expect a 12 VDC test light to light off of .5 VAC

All your test results prove is that we dont know.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok i changed crank sensor and the end of the old one had a small piece of the end missing and installed new one and turned key and it started to fire but stopped. It did it twice and now back to just turning over
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Took new one out and the magnet is destroyed and got grove marks on it.

Sorry for the delay. I have been away. The timing cover is going to have to come off to see what is damaged in there. Something in the timing is damaged causing the damage to the crank sensors. Once you figure out whats broken we can see what to do next. If possible once you get the timing cover off give me some pictures.
