Hello. I believe what you are referring to is a condition referred to as "morning sickness" It's basically old and worn seals within the transmission that don't seal as well as they once used to, so the fluid leaks past the seals resulting in poor transmission performance. After the transmission warms up, those seals get soft and seal much better and the transmission begins to shift normally again. Lucas makes a transmission conditioner which I have never personally tried, but may work well for you. Does that answer your question I hope?
