2012 (late 2011) Focus SEL with 6 speed dual clutch

2012 (late 2011) Focus SEL with 6 speed dual clutch "automatic" transmission, doesn't crank increasingly often. When first happened 2 months ago, battery terminals were fuzzy so I naturally assumed it was time. Battery test confirmed, but (apparently) that wasn't the problem. Lights (instruments, ect) don't dim when start is engaged, get the "parking aid" and "hill start assist" messages (over and over some times). There is a distinct "click" (behind? me, and it doesn't sound like a starter solenoid) when the ignition key is turned to start, but no crank. Is there still a "neutral disconnect" on this model? I know some of the previous models (two of my kids had problems with a shift linkage on their 2005 & 2006's) had a fairly simple but tedious problem. Short of leaving my ride at the dealer for a day (or so) where should I look.

Yes there is a park neutral switch on your vehicle. Look over the starting diagrams below.

Lets first off force it to crank and see what happens. Remove the starter relay, turn the key to the run position. Briefly jump a paper clip from relay pin 3 to 5. Let me know if it cranks and starts?
