Hello, what kind of vehicle is this, year make model? It blows good heat only on low fan speed? Are both heater hoses hot?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
1997 ford expedition.
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Ok are both hoses to the front heater core hot? Does this have auxillary heat and ac and if so does the rear heater work ok? Is it low on coolant? EATC climate control system?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Both heater core hoses read 168 with my temp gun..
Blend door is working
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Rear heat and AC work fine
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
coolant good
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no auto temp control
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Temp sounds a little low but should give decent heat. how cold does it get when you turn the blower on high speeed?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where is the air intake for the system?
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

The fresh air intake is below the windshield wiper cowling. The fresh/recirculate door opening is behind the glove box.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I cut out a opening in the duct and confirmed the blend door is working. heater core hot. Seems like more air is coming thru the air condensor that heater core
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Didn't measure the temp at high. Will do right now
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't have a fresh/recirculate door I don't believe on the 1997 expedition that I can find.
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Ok. Take a look at the fresh/recirculate door if you can see it you should see the door open and close when you change from fresh air to recirculate. Only thing that could be an issue is if a portion of the blend door isnt working or cracked and not sealing off the airflow when you increase the fan speed and forcing a portion of the door open. You would have to remove the blower motor and look up through the oening in the ac/heater case to inspect the recirculate door.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Won't there be a switch or something to turn the door from fresh to recirculate? If so where is it. Because I don't see one or not looking in the right place
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
My control panel just has the temp hot/cold , fan speed and the duct selector knob for AC/defrost/panel etc..
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

It should be a vacuum dashpot that acutates the fresh air blend door.

Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

When you turn the switch to max ac it closes the fresh air door and when you turn it to normal ac it opens the door

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
when the ac is off it should be drafting from fresh air.
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Correct, if you dont have a switch to toggle from recirculate to fresh air

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
With the car standing still I get 60 deg out of the front defrost and 110 out of the back system
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Is the fresh air intake where the windshield wipers are?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where the black grill is at the bottom of the windshield?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I rechecked the core in and out lines. In is at 178 and the out is 80 with the fan funning full on.
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Both heater hoses should be the same temperature, with one side being lower, it is indicating a restriction in the core. the air inlet is below the windshield wiper black plastic cowl panels

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I guess I should try flushing the heater core.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
What size ID are the hoses?
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Not 100 percent sure either 5/8 or 3/4 on the older model, should be a quick disconnect hose going to both inlet and outlet.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I think I will try the Prestone Cleaner and then flush and see if that cures it or helps.
Expert:  HDGENE replied 1 year ago.

Very good it should flow out evenly on both outlets with both hoses disconnected.
