05 ford f150 4.6L after an oil change the gasket didnt get

Customer Question

05 ford f150 4.6L after an oil change the gasket didnt get removed from the oil filter. so double gasket went down the hwy started burning oil that was leaking on manifold. looked bad but just alot of smoke. heading home the oil filter popped off a block
from the house. pressure dropped to nothing so he says he shut the engine off and coasted in. new filter and oil and fired it up to a hard deep knocking. i bought it and it sounds like a slight ( at the beginning of ) rod knock. i jacked it up and pulled the
oil pan . all rod bearings look great, no scaring or signs of excessive ware. no movement except for the usual side to side. where could this knocking come from?

Plasti-gauge each connecting rod bearing to make sure. Main bearings don't usually knock, but if the rods are check out, you might as well plasti-gauge the mains as well. If this is a push rod engine, you might want to remove the valve cover/s and take a quick look around to make sure a pushrod didn't bend, break through the rocker arm or anything else unusual.
