Hello and thanks for using JustAnswer.I will try my best to help you with your question.
Does this happen after the vehicle sits for a while and cools down?
Can you keep the engine running by stepping on the gas pedal?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
cold or hot and stepping on the gas pedal dos not help
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
How are you trying to keep it running?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
just keep starting it
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
Try this and let me know what happens.
Turn the key to on, not start , and leave it there for 3 seconds and then turn it off. Then repeat this process 3 to 5 times and then try to start the engine.
Let me know if it starts right up and stays running on its own.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
tried that did not help
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
Have you checked for any trouble codes in the PCM (Engine Computer)?
Does the check engine light come on when the key is turned on and go out while the engine is cranking?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no codes
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
Do you have a manual fuel pressure gauge that you can install on the schrader valve test port on the fuel injector fuel rails to check the fuel pressure when the engine will not start?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no I dont
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
We need to see if you are getting the proper fuel pressure and then the proper spark to the engine. Can you get one or borrow one.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
if the fuel pressure and spark good then what
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
Then there is a sensor or a module issue.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
what sensor and module
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
Any of the sensors on the engine,
Cam sensor,
Mass Air Flow Sensor
EGR DPFE sensor
Engine coolant temperature sensor
Crankshaft position sensor
The PCM (Engine Computer) could be the problem
There could be a bad fuel pump relay
PCM Power relay
The EGR valve could be the problem
The transmission could be causing the problem with a bad torque converter or a TCC solenoid
It could be in the PATS key security system which includes the keys, the PATS transponder, the Instrument cluster.
Could be a weak fuel pump
clogged fuel line
sticking fuel injectors
And I could go on. That is why proper testing is needed.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
dose it tack time for the computer to see the new iac because it is running fine right now
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
No, the IAC should start working as soon as it is plugged in and the engine is started.
You could have what we call an intermittent problem.
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Fuel pressure at 15 psi replace fuel pump now at 30 psi seems to be running fine
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Where is the fuel pump relay located because the auto parts guy said I should replace it too
Expert:  A. Penland replied 1 year ago.
when replacing the fuel pump, it is always recommended to replace the fuel pump relay and the fuel filter.
The fuel pump relay is located under the dash just below the radio in a black relay box.
