Hello and thank you for your question, I the fuel level sending unit is service separate of the pump but unfortunately there is no was to change it out with out having to drop the tank and remove the fuel pump, the sending unit mounts to the pump . If you are able to do some testing I can send you the test steps to be sure the sender is at fault as well as fuel pump removal steps. Let me know and we can work from there.

I WOULD ASSUME THE SMART THING TO DO AT THIS POINT WOULD BE TO REPLACE THE PUMP AND SENDING UNIT TOGETHER...CORRECT? AND ARE YOU AWARE OF SOME SMART TECH THAT HAS FIGURED OUT HOW TO ACCESS THE PUMP THROUGH THE FLOOR OF THE REAR SET AREA? IF NOT, THE STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS WOULD BE OF HELP ALONG WITH FLAT RATE HOURS SHOULD I OPT TO HAVE A QUALIFIED SHOP DO THE LABOR............
Expert:  Ron replied 1 year ago.

Due to the age of the truck I would agree with replacing both . Unfortunately there is no access hole in the floor board to even get at the pump, the tank has to be removed. I have enclosed the test steps in the first link and the tank and pump removal in the other steps. Copy and paste the links to your browser to open and view them. The labor to remove and replace the assembly calls for 2 hours and the testing should not cost more then another .5 hours. The complete jub should not exceed 2.5 in labor.
