Hi,
The shift interlock runs through the brake light switch so that the brake has to be applied in order to get it out of park. The first thing we check is are the brake lights working on both sides?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
brake lights are working both sides. there is play in the gear shift lever

Thanks,
Now i need you to check the fuse shown below in the fuse box under the dash on driver side. If its blown it will cause this. Fuse 2.6 (the one on the left) is the one i need checked. Forget the fuse on the right if the brake lights work.
Let me know what you find.

Let me know what you find with that fuse.
In case you need to move it until fixed, there is an override procedure.
An emergency override function can be performed by turning ignition switch to 1st position from OFF, towards ON position. Apply brake pedal and attempt to move gearshift lever.
See if that works.
