Ford Excursion: the interior & side step lights stay on when

This answer was rated:

the interior & side step lights stay on when the doors are shut tight.

Is the door ajar light coming on?

Ok, the problem with these truck is the door ajar switch is in the latch itself. It is a little pin like plunger setup and they get dirty easily. With a scantool you can tell right away which door is acting up. Without a scantool you will need to do some work.

Do one door at a time. Grab some WD40 and spray about 10 seconds worth of spray into the door latch itself. Get it in all the nooks and crannies. It will run down onto the ajar switch. Then open and close the door 10 times to work the switch. This will usually free up the switch and give you some more life out of it. At some point you will probably have to replace it. Go through each door until you find the culprit.

It doesn't hurt to spray those latches up on each oil change too!
