So if you disconnect the cable from the remote side and pull on it with a pliers is there any resistance felt? You need to pull on the cable housing and the inner cable at the same time. If the housing sheath pulled away from the housing or if the housing came out of the mount on the latch then pulling both the inner cable and housing together should release the latch. let me know if that works. Usually the slot area of the cable end breaks where it fits into the latch.
