Ford Excursion: tow haul button on end of gear shift lever

This answer was rated:

tow haul button on end of gear shift lever no longer works. 2004 Ford Excursion w/diesel engine.
This could be as simple as a defective button or broken wires in the gearshift handle, to check the switch just pop the cap off the end of the shifter and check it with the multi meter for continuity.
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Where does the cap come off? Can this be done with small screwdriver?

Yes, you will see a small cutout , stick a small screwdriver in it and the cap will come of, then just grasp th switch and pull it straight out.
