truck ran fine parked on driveway as usual went an ate and came back an truck wouldnt start.
Optional Information: Model: ford excursion 7.3Year: 2000What have you tried so far?: check to see if fuel in filter and when air got in the fuel filled up. after that replaced cap and retried and just turned over. reloosen the filter cap and had pressure spray me with fuel. retighten filter and retried stills turns over nothing else.
Hi, I’m Chris. Welcome and thanks for asking your question!
Do you have a scan tool to see if there are any trouble codes or to check the ICP pressure?
If you spray a little diesel and ether into the air intake, will it crank start and remain running?
dont have a scan tool--- i havent tried the ether i had just drove it and pulled in driveway. went an ate an when i started it back it fired up and shut off that was it kinda like out of fuel
Do you have a digital volt meter with you, Mickey?
I will be able to get ahold of one.
I just have a test light
Crank the engine and tell me if the voltage at the ICP sensor dark blue/ light green wire shows over 1.0 DC volts.
Ok i will can I get back tomorrow with you?
You for sure can, I work a bit in the morning then mainly late in the evening.
i wasnt able to get volt meter
They sale a descant one made by Innova at Auto Zone for 28$.
ok i got a scan machine no codes present
checking volts in 2mins
where the icp located?
It is on the drivers side head near the front of the engine and in the valley behind the alternator.
i located it but question does it have like 3 wires on it? They arent that color i did check the wire current --without it cranked but turned on and got 5volts i think
hey anymore thoughts? ive replace the cam sensor
still nothing
anymore thoughts
replaced cam sensor
Yes it does have 3 wires, since the colors are not matching, tell me what DC voltage you get on each wire and there color while cranking the engine?
ok the wires on the clip side by side had 5volts the one in the middle had none. Shape was like this x x
x
Can you tell me which wire colors had which amount of voltage when cranking. Ford omits connector views under 4 wires so I can not see which wire or color is in the middle.
blue/green no current brown/white current and gray/red current
Relist: Incomplete answer.review process and tell me what else to check
did you get the wire colors
Your double reply erased my post to you.
With no voltage on the DB/LG wire this means the ICP sensor is bad or the high pressure oil system has a leak or the IPR valve is bad or the pump is bad and the high pressure reservoir is empty. You need to now check the reservoir on the top front center of the engine and see if the oil is within 1 inch of the top. Then follow the below steps

Let me know if you run into difficulty Mickey
if the truck want crank is the 4 to 5volts suppose to be on the bluegreen wire?
Will the vehicle not crank?
I thought the concern was crank but no start?
The ICP test to see if there is 0.83 volts or more on the DB/LG wire has to be done while cranking the engine.
ok so if i unplug the wire to the icp its just checking current not the actual icp sensor
The connector has to be plugged in during the test. You are seeing what voltage the ICP sensor is sending out to the PCM.
hey, just check the oil res. and its 3 to 4 inch low not touching or seeable.
Use some engine oil and fill it to the top and crank the engine a max of 10 seconds to see if it fires up. if it does then the high pressure oil pump is bad.
ok filled with oil tried cranking it it didnt fire up made sure all wires were connected still nothing
Okay we are back to now checking the ICP sensor DB/LG wire voltage to see if there is high pressure oil. You should get 0.83 volts or more while cranking.
ok i cant get a check on it i pluged the switch in and tried to go from back side but couldnt get volts without cutting into the wire howelse am i suppose to check it?
Use you volt meter and poke a small hole in the insulation of the wire to touch the copper wires inside.
ok so while someone is cranking it do this and ground it to any metal sorce for the reading.. ok I will do first in the morning so with it not cracking now are we ruleing out high oil and just saying maybe this sensor?
until i check the voltage or
If the engine is not even able to crank now, how did you verify it would not start once you refilled the high pressure oil reservoir. The engine has to be able to crank to even get it to start.
When you turn the key does the engine crank (spin/turn over) or not?
it turns over and spins im from nc when it cranks we assume its running.
I use the Auto makers terminology crank and start.
You must check the ICP sensor voltage output, while cranking the engine.
The filling of the high pressure oil reservoir does not rule out the pump, this just rules out the pump not having enough oil.
ok I will check the icp sensor voltage output in the morning. Thanks i will send reply in the morning.
Sounds good.
ok ichecked the current while cranking(turns over) it had no current the others showed 4 to 5volts. the oil reservior was low again this morning after i filled it with a quart last night.
Now it is time to follow the test page 2 I sent at 8pm on 9-19-12. You need to replace the IPR valve and recheck. If it still will not start, then the HPOP is faulty and needs to be replaced.
what would cause the quart of oil to go away?
A faulty high pressure oil pump will allow the reservoir to drain down.
Experience: 16 years experience with Ford.
Hey would it be that or just the ipr value? or both
,
You for sure have a faulty pump since the reservoir drains but you can also still have a faulty IPR a scan tool will tell you all this information.
