1992 Ford F-150 4wd. 5speed stick 5.0 quit going into 1st and 2nd gear replaced loose shifter still no 1st or 2nd clicks like its going in but does nothing Rest of gears work fine no noise just all of a sudden did this
Hello and thanks for your question.
Does the shifter move beyond the neutral gate when moving to first or second or is it stuck in the neutral gate when trying to move the shifter to first or second?
If it does move to the first and second positions normally, is there any resistance or indication that the shift fork is actually moving or does it feel like there is no resistance when moving to those positions?
When you said you replaced the shifter for being loose what part actually did you replace just the upper lever or the entire assembly that inserts into the top cover, and did that take care of the looseness?
I also need to know if this is a M5OD or ZF transmission.
M5OD I believe & I replaced the whole assembly the looseness went away going into & from 1st to 2nd it clicks and feels like its going into gear but nothing there
If the shifter moves into first and second and you let out the clutch and its still in neutral then more than likely there is an issue in the top cover, broken roll pin at the fork or detent pin. It sounds like your next step is to pull the top cover for inspection.Click below for top cover disassembly and views.
