I drive a 2000 ford f550 with a 17' flatbed. Yesterday I had a load of about 5500 pounds set on my rear dully axel and as I was driving the transmission would not shift from I believe 3rd to 4th. I went back to my shop and unloaded and sat around for an hour or so and then when I drove home with no load the shifting was fine. Any ideas?

Hello my name isXXXXX if the overdrive light wasn't flashing, then the computer was probably not commanding the 3-4 shift, if the engine load is great enough, the computer won't allow the upshift also, I would still have the computer tested for trouble codes to see if there any stored. Since the trans shifts fine now, it could have been too much load or the trans range sensor could have been indicating the incorrect gear selection input, if this happens the trans will not upshift either, I would have the computer tested for trouble codes, and also have the trans range sensor monitored using a scan tool to see if the computer is seeing the correct input range also, any more questions just ask, thanks Steve W
