Customer Question

My Ford Econoline 2002 15 passenger - the temperature can't be controlled in the back part of the van. Front works great. The back has either hot air from the floor or semi cool air from the top no mater what we set the temperature to. Any ideas?

Does the back have a separate AC unit that needs charged?  We have the panels pulled off the back.

Country: United States
Make: Ford
Model: E-350 Econoline Super Wgn
Year: 2002
Engine: gas

Already Tried:
The blue vacuum hose has a vacuum when changed to AC. The door seems to be flipping although we can't see it directly. The temperature just doesn't change.

Hello and welcome to Just Answer! I will do my best to help you today. You have a split unit the system uses the same compressor for cooling but has 2 separate evaporator cores. It sounds like there are 2 possible causes. What you need to do is check the rear a/c lines to see if they are good and cold at the evaporator core as they should be. If they are not you have a bad expansion valve. If they do get cold then you could have a bad temperature blendor actuator.

We ran the AC on max with rear on High. The a/c lines did not get very cold. But just to make sure we are feeling the right thing, are they the metal pipes on the lower left of the fan? Here is a picture of the whole fan area:

Here is a close up of the metal pipes (please ignore the dog hair):

Did we feel the right thing?

If so and since they are not cold, it is a bad expansion valve, right?

Do they have to drain the AC to fix that? Thank you so much!
