Ford Mustang: Have a 1968 ford Mustang. Have changed the fuel

Customer Question

Have a 1968 ford Mustang. Have changed the fuel filter and fuel pump. The car will only run with high RPM's over 1000. Tune up was done about 200 miles ago. When turning the headlights on or putting the car in gear the engine will die. What are some areas I need to be looking?

Does it smell like it is running rich? did you check the carburator to see if it is dumping fuel?

I would check for vacuum leaks. Hoses and the carburator base plate. If you have throttle cleaner spray you can spray around the hose,carb base and intake and see if the idle changes. Be careful not to spray near the distributor. You can check the carb adjustment screws, turn them all the way in and see if it effects the idle. Sometimes the carb can have an internal leak.
