Hi,I am going to be driving my daughter's 2002 Ford Mustang from Sioux Falls, SD to Albany, NY. It has 47K miles on it and the tires are worn and probably originals since it was bought used in 2004.This car has never been driven on a cross country trip and it seems OK except you feel every bump on the road and is that because the tires are old? The body kind of jiggles around when you turn, etc., That is just a trait of this car, right? Anyway, can you give me an idea of how much a set of new tires would be for this car and what things would you do to the car before going on a long trip besides getting the oil changed. For the last four years it has been garaged with hardly no driving while the kid was in college out east. I am now handing it over to my daughter whose never had to keep track of oil changes, etc. During college she didn't want to be bothered with it.
Country: United StatesMake: FordModel: MustangYear: 2002Engine: maybe V-6? Already Tried: It had a new fuel pump put in December 2011 as it would not start. The fuel pump cost $448.58 by itself. Otherwise, I just have general questions about the car.
Hello JACUSTOMER, do you happen to know which size tires you currently have on the vehicle?
Oh, hi, sorry I got back late. No, actually I don't know the size of the tires and the car is stored in a garage quite a distance away.
Sorry, I should have been watching for you to come online. I apologize. I'd just be happy to know what all you would have checked on this car before taking it on such a long trip and then leaving it with a kid out East. Maybe I am being too much of a worrier. Does the Mustang have any weaknesses like any parts go out on it? Also, I am thinking that the tires might cost close to $200 a piece for decent ones-- like that are good on slick roads.
If it is a V6 model then the tires are not usually too expensive. About $120-150 each. As for other problems this car is fairly solid if it is taken care of. What I would be sure to do would be to have the transmission fluid checked to see if it needs to be cleaned and have the cooling system checked. It is common to have dirty coolant which can cause leaks in this car.
