2001 ford escape: fuel pump..xlt, 4wd..back seat

This answer was rated:

how to change fuel pump on a 2001 ford escape. xlt, 4wd. Some say to drop the tank, others say get access under the back seat. I looked at the access via the back seat and think i can see the unit after lifting a cut-out carpet square. Given that i can remove it from there, is there anything else i should know?

BigBob :

Greetings and welcome to just answer!!!!!

BigBob :

You do not take out the fuel pump on this application, it is accessed from under the LH rear seat cushion. I will upload a file for you.

BigBob :

This is from the factory manual. i don't know why they are saying that much.

BigBob :

Still there?

Customer:

One place yeah, but both places. I will ask them to be sure. They told me i need a new pump. I need to turn the key on twice or three times to prime it otherwise engine will not crank. I hear a whirling sound but today there was no sound, and car would not start, so i think i better get it fixed asap.

Customer:

So, i should still drain the tank or not?

BigBob :

Give me your vin # XXXXX I can double check.

BigBob :

Thanks!!! Give me just a second.

BigBob :

Yeah I just double checked. Did you download the file? You DO NOT have to drain the tank first.

Customer:

Ok, i downloaded the document. Do i need the tool, i think use something else, unless u think i really need it.

BigBob :

You do not need the tool for this one. You can use a drift or punch.

Customer:

Release pressure - take the cap off.

Customer:

Ok - the document says that.
