Steve :

There are many concerns that can cause the stop and pull safely light on. There are many known concerns with they hybrid from 05

Steve :

in order to diag the concern you need to have the codes pulled from the computer to see what is causing the problem

Customer:

well the shop only seen that one thing wrong with it

Customer:

it was put on the diag

Steve :

I would strongly recommend you have someone pull the codes from the computer to find what is causing the concern

Steve :

some of the known issues is the electric water pump goes bad

Steve :

there is a vent acuater in the back that controls the cooling of the battery that goes bad

Customer:

the check eng light come on the first time and now it is not coming on

Steve :

or there could be other issues cause this concern but the place to start is to take it to someone that has a special test equipment to pull the codes

Customer:

i took it the frist time and they pulled the codes and that is the only thing it showed

Customer:

do you know how much it will cost for that

Steve :

sorry did not see what it shows

Steve :

  • RED TRIANGLE ON AND STOP SAFELY NOW MESSAGE - DTC P1A0C

Publication Date: September 18, 2009

FORD:

2005-2008 Escape Hybrid

MERCURY:

2006-2008 Mariner Hybrid

This article supersedes TSB 9-17-9 to update the IDS version.

ISSUE:

Some 2005-2008 Escape Hybrid and 2006-2008 Mariner Hybrid vehicles may exhibit an intermittent Red Triangle on and Stop Safely Now message displayed on the message center, accompanied by a sudden RPM loss/no start with a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P1A0C. Vehicles may exhibit this symptom on the first start of the morning or after an extended idle. The symptom will clear on the next key cycle.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Using the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) scan tool:

  1. Access and monitor the LOS_STRT parameter identification (PID) in the powertrain control module (PCM).

    1. If the LOS_STRT PID indicates YES, perform Step 2.

    2. If the LOS_STRT PID indicates NO, the DTC P1A0C may be the result of a 12 volt system fault. Performing the calibration update in Step 2 will not correct a 12 volt system fault. Follow Powertrain Control Emission Diagnostics (PC/ED) for DTC P1A0C.

  2. Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 62.14 or higher and 63.02 or higher. Calibration files are not included on DVD 2009.9. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com. The calibration contains a sludge compensation strategy for the throttle body.

  3. Turn the key off to re-initialize the PCM. This will allow the sludge compensation strategy to learn.

  4. With the vehicle in park or neutral and the climate control system set to DEFROST, start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature (greater than 170 °F (77 °C) coolant temperature). Run it an additional 5 minutes to allow sufficient learning time.

  5. While the engine is running, using IDS datalogger or equivalent, check the PID value of ETC_TRIM.

    1. If ETC_TRIM value is 3.5 degrees and/or DTC P115E is present, then replace the electronic throttle body (ETB), following Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-04C.

    2. If ETC_TRIM value is less than 3.5 degrees and DTC P115E is not present, but driveability concerns persist, the ETB is not the likely cause of the concern and replacement is not necessary. Continue with normal PC/ED diagnostics.

  • DTC P0A27 - INSTRUMENTATION WARNINGS - REDUCED ENGINE POWER

Publication Date: September 2, 2009

FORD:

2005-2007 Escape Hybrid

MERCURY:

2006-2007 Mariner Hybrid

ISSUE:

Some 2005-2007 Escape Hybrid vehicles built from 10/13/2003 to 12/19/2006 and Mariner Hybrid vehicles built from 6/10/2005 to 10/11/2006 may have a red triangle illuminated on the cluster accompanied by an audible chime. In addition, the message center will indicate Stop Safely Now and the Powertrain Control Module will command the vehicle to shut down. Diagnostic trouble code P0A27 for Hybrid Battery Power Off Circuit will also be present.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

This service procedure replaces Customer Satisfaction Program 07B48, which expired on 8/22/2009. Check the vehicle's repair history to determine if a 14A303 service harness has already been installed under 07B48. Do not install a second 14A303 service harness in series with a 14A303 that has been previously installed under the Customer Satisfaction Program.

Install a service harness in the High Voltage Traction Battery (HVTB), and reprogram the Battery Control Module (BCM), to eliminate the circuit that is susceptible to setting a false DTC.

Follow the installation instructions provided in the kit to install the service harness and reprogram the BCM.

Publication Date: August 27, 2009

FORD:

2005-2008 Escape Hybrid

MERCURY:

2006-2008 Mariner Hybrid

This article supersedes TSB 9-15-3 to update the warranty causal part number.

ISSUE:

Some 2005-2008 Escape Hybrid and Mariner Hybrid vehicles may set diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0A81 (Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit) and/or P0A96 (Battery Pack Cooling Fan 2 Control Circuit) in the traction battery control module (TBCM). These codes by themselves normally do not result in any symptoms that are noticeable to the customer. DTCs P0A81/P0A96 are typically found when diagnosing other driveability concerns that result in additional DTCs.

ACTION:

Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Replace both high voltage traction battery (HVTB) cooling fans. Follow the instruction sheet included with the kit and only one (1) kit is needed per vehicle.

This article supersedes TSB 08-15-1 to update the vehicle applications.

ISSUE:

Some 2005-2008 Escape Hybrid and 2006-2008 Mariner Hybrid vehicles may exhibit a red triangle light and codes indicating a transaxle overtemp.
