1996 Ford Explorer: 4x4..The speedometer..automatic transmission

Resolved Question:

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer, Eddie Bauer edition, 4x4. The speedometer does not work and the automatic transmission will not shift as the speed increases.

Most likely its a shorted vehicle speed sensor (VSS).

From under the right-hand side (passenger side) of the vehicle, disengage the wiring harness connector from the VSS located half-way down the right-hand side of the transmission assembly. and see if the fuse blows, if it doesnt, replace the speed sensor. It controls the speedometer and the shift points for the transmission.
