How to reset the alarm of my ford mustang gt 1997

If this is the Factory Alarm:
Unlocking Door with Remote or Key will DisArm the Factory Alarm

You can TRY:
Disconnect Positive Battery Cable
Open Driver Door & LEAVE Open
Turn Ignition Switch to On position & LEAVE On

Reconnect Positive Battery Cable
Horn may sound for a few seconds

Start vehicle

This is a factory installed alarm. As far as I know...I must follow a sequence to reset the alarm. I have done it before. I called Galpin Ford and a technician walked me thru the steps - this was a few years ago. The service center is closed today (Sunday) and only be open tomorrow.

They have a sequence of steps.

This is a factory installed alarm

There is NO "sequence" to DisArm a 1997 Ford Mustang "FACTORY" Alarm

It Arms when Locking the Door with Remote or Door Key Switch
It DisArms when Unlocking the Door with Remote or Key Switch

nothing unusual about it

IF this is a Ford Dealer Installed Alarm, then it would be different.

As I stated above;

If this is the Factory Alarm:
Unlocking Door with Remote or Key will DisArm the Factory Alarm

You can TRY:
Disconnect Positive Battery Cable
Open Driver Door & LEAVE Open
Turn Ignition Switch to On position & LEAVE On

Reconnect Positive Battery Cable

You right. I think it was a dealer installed alarm.

I tried your suggestion...and it did not work.

As I said...I have done this before. Ford have a sequence for it.

did you try "both" of the procedures (exactly)?

Do you have a Remote?
If so is there a Brand Name or Model Number on it?
Is this the Alarm (siren) or Horn sounding?

Customer: replied 5 years ago.

I don't have a remote.

It is a Alarm (siren).

Expert:  Lurch replied 5 years ago.

It is a Alarm (siren).

If it is a "add on" Alarm (Ford or Aftermarket)

Typically most will DisArm by the same procedure:

Disconnect Positive Battery Cable
Open Driver Door & LEAVE Open
Turn Ignition Switch to On position & LEAVE On

Reconnect Positive Battery Cable
Horn may sound for a few seconds

Start vehicle

OR

If not, then there should be a "VALET" Switch located inside the car
It can be the LED, on the Alarm Antenna, under the Dash, in Glove Box, etc.
If the Valet Switch is a Push Button Type:
With Battery connected
Turn Ignition Switch ON
Press & Hold Valet Switch for apprx 5 seconds to DisArm

There is a on-off swith inside the car where you open the hood. I tried turn the swithch to on and then to off with the key in the ignition. Did not work.

If you are sure this Switch goes to the Alarm:

TRY
Turn Key ON
Push the Switch to Off Position
Turn Off Key
Push Switch to On Position

ok - thanks.
Expert:  Lurch replied 5 years ago.

If Dealer cannot help, follow wires from Switch or LED, which should go to the Alarm Module (brain). Should have a bunch of wires & plugs
See if there is a Brand & Model Number on the Module & post it back here

THANK YOU
Thanks for using J/a

This is how you do it:
Make sure alarm toggle switch is on OFF position.
Alarm toggle switch is found underneath the HOOD opener. Underneath the steering wheel.

1. Turn key to on position;
2. Toggle switch from off position: on then off;
3. Turn key to total off position-all the way off;
4. Toggle switch from off position: on then off;
5. Turn key to on position-all the way off
6. Toggle switch from off position: on then off;

Mustang GT 1997 covertable alarm installed by Galpin Ford.
