2003 super: 6.0 diesel..fanclutch kicks..oil cooler..trans

This answer was rated:

I have a 2003 super duty 6.0 diesel, fanclutch kicks in when
pulling my 5th wheel and won't shut down for several hours
even when going down hill. I've had the oil cooler replaced
by a ford dealer but that has not corrected the problem.
Engine and trans temp never runs more than half way at
Have you had it scanned for codes and to have th e fan clutch operation checked,as it sounds like the clutch is sticking and wont disengage when hot?

Yes,I had all that done at Berge Ford in Mesa, Az. but by the time I

got there the fan had already shut down. This was last fall and I had

the oil cooler replaced because they said thats what they thought

it was.Ihaven't pulled the trailer till now and coming back east, the

fan ran from Payson Az. to Elk City Ok which about 800 mi. before

it shut down.

Do you have a grille insert on your truck?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.

Yes I do but the grille insert was put in when truck was new.

This started about 2 yrs ago.

Try it without the grille insert, over time the rad gets plugged up and the added loss of air flow will effect the fan cycling,I have run into this before and removing the grille insert solved the problem. So you may have to remove the rad and have it washed out if you want to reuse the insert.
