vacuum line from front of transmission cut by water pump... unable to determine where it gets its vacuum from.. ford escape 2002

Brian :

This is most likely not a vaccum hose but a vent hose for the transmission, there should be a small hose bracket or retaining clip on the trrans dipstick tube, the hose should have a 90 degree bend on the end of it so the open end of the hose faces downward.
